Karim Benzema of Real Madrid has earned the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Tournament title for his spectacular header against Chelsea.

After a fantastic record of 15 goals in 12 matches, the Madrid No. 9 won the player of the tournament award after his sixth European Cup victory against Liverpool in Paris on Saturday.

Now that UEFA’s Technical Observer panel has chosen the top ten goals of the campaign, Benzema’s header against Chelsea in the quarter-final first-leg at Stamford Bridge has pipped Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe to No 1.

The Frenchman met Vinicius’ cross with aplomb, heading the ball firmly and correctly beyond Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for the first of three goals in a 3-1 first-leg victory.

The second-best goal was Vinicius’ mesmeric solo effort against Shakhtar Donetsk in the group stages, with Kylian Mbappe’s late winner vs Madrid in the last-16 first-leg rounding out the top three.

Robert Lewandowski’s goal against Dynamo Kyiv, Alex Telles’ volley against Villarreal, and Lionel Messi’s strike against Manchester City were all on the shortlist.

Thiago Alcantara’s spectacular long-range effort for Liverpool against Porto was ranked 10th.

After scoring three goals against PSG to turn the last-16 tie on its head at the Bernabeu, Benzema’s header set him on his path to another European hat-trick.

He also scored twice against Manchester City in the first leg of the semi-final, as well as converting the game-winning penalty in the second leg.
