When Paris Saint-Germain signed Neymar from Barcelona they broke the world transfer record, but in reality the Brazilian cost a lot more for the French club, in fact the deal came to a total of 489,228,117 euros.
Barcelona were paid 222 million euros by PSG which was the release clause in his contract, but in reality that was just the tip of the iceberg for the Parisians.
According to El Mundo, on top of the 222m euros PSG paid Barcelona, the contract Neymar signed on August 3, 2017, had a gross annual salary of 43,334,400 euros over five season. In addition, should he remain at PSG for a sixth season, his salary would rocket to 50,556,117 euros.
All in all, Neymar’s move to PSG cost the French club a whopping 489,228,117 euros.
The contract also included a renewal clause for one extra season, which would take Neymar’s stay at the club to June 30, 2023, should the player decide to active it.
