When:
Tuesday, 6th April 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano

On Tuesday night, Real Madrid and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Estadio Di Stefano in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg. The game is a repeat of the 2018 Champions League final, which saw the team from the Spanish capital record a 3-1 win over the Merseysider’s.

Real Madrid

Los Blancos have hit a touch of form of late, as Zinedine Zidane’s team heads into this big clash on the back of an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions, including nine wins after a weekend 2-0 win over Eibar in La Liga.

When it comes to the Champions League, Zidane’s team also have a stellar recent record. Los Blancos eliminated Italian outfit Atalanta 4-1 on aggregate to set up this tie. The victories in both legs of their tie with the Nerazzurri mean that the home team has recorded wins in five of their last six matches in European football’s elite competition.

Real Madrid have also won their last three Champions League games on home soil, having also scored at least two goals in their last four home games in Europe’s competition.

One major issue for the home side is the absences of influential centre-back Sergio Ramos and forward Eden Hazard through injury.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s team seems to have now recovered from their major slump in February and March. The Merseysider’s go into this clash on the back of three straight victories in all competitions, having kept clean sheets in all three wins. The winning run has put the Reds right back into contention for a Champions League spot for next season. However, due to their recent form in this competition of late, they will feel that they could also win Europe’s elite competition to qualify for next season.

Even when Liverpool’s league form was poor, Klopp’s team were still pretty strong in this competition. The visitors have won six of their eight matches in the Champions League, having suffered just one defeat in the process. Also despite experiencing defensive issues this season, the Reds have kept six clean sheets in European football’s elite competition.

Liverpool also have a good recent record on their travels in the Champions League, winning five of their last seven away matches.

Conclusion

Both these teams have hit decent form of late, Real Madrid especially, so it’s a tough one to call. Liverpool seems to thrive in the Champions League, while their opponents are the most successful club in the history of the competition. We are backing the draw in this clash, which would set up the second leg nicely.

The other bet we recommend is for Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema to be an anytime goalscorer, as the Frenchman has scored nine times in his last seven appearances in all competitions.
