Pochettino provides Kylian Mbappe update after PSG star limps off ahead of Man City

Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on Kylian Mbappe’s wellbeing, after the hitman was forced off late in the club’s meeting with Metz this evening.

The French champions made the trip to the Stade Saint-Symphorien, for a Ligue 1 clash with mid-table Metz.

PSG headed into proceedings aware that nothing but all 3 points would do, having actually sat 2nd ahead of kick-off, behind table-topping Lille.

And, when all was said and done in the northeast of France, secure a much needed victory is precisely what the visitors managed.

Kylian Mbappe unsurprisingly proved the star of the show, bagging a brace, before Mauro Icardi killed off any remaining hope of a Metz comeback with a late 3rd from the penalty spot.

PSG, in turn, have retaken a two-point advantage atop the Ligue 1 table, ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Lyon and Lille on Sunday night.

As outlined above, however, on an otherwise positive evening, the French champions were also dealt a concerning blow on the personnel front.

This came with just minutes remaining in the clash, when match-winner Mbappe went to ground with what appeared to be a thigh problem. He was quickly replaced by Julian Draxler.

In turn, it came as little surprise when the subject of Mbappe’s wellbeing took centre stage in Mauricio Pochettino’s post-match press conference.

The Argentine, though, remained coy, confirming that his star hitman suffered a knock to the quad, before simply revealing his hope that the problem will not prove to be a serious one:

‘He received a knock to the quadriceps. We hope it’s nothing serious.’

PSG will of course be praying for good news, ahead of a Champions League semi-final showdown with Manchester City during the week.
