Norwegian Football club face police probe amid allegation of sexual assault after sex party

A sex party organised by players of Norwegian football team SK Brann at their stadium has caused uproar and shame among supporters after an allegation of sexual assault was made.

Supporters and the local community in Bergen are reeling after it emerged that 12 members of the team in the country’s top division ‘romped on the field and in the changing room’.

Those involved went out for dinner last Thursday evening before heading for a night out. From the nightclub, the players then went back to the stadium accompanied by seven women, according to Bergens Tidende, a local publication.

The players thought they would evade detection at the ground as they had deliberately left their mobile phones at home.

But they forgot about the surveillance cameras which ‘captured images of the romp’. The players eventually left the ground at around 5am.

The club claimed to have dealt with the situation on Thursday but the allegation of sexual assault was made the following day.

Brann’s coach, Erik Horneland, described the sex party as ‘disgusting’ and admitted there was another similar party set up by the players earlier this year.

He said: ‘We received new information that complicated the matter.

‘You can probably question us a lot when it comes to the way we have handled the case. But it has been complex, and we have only had good intentions. We will have to carry out the evaluation afterwards.

‘Those who can make the best assessments now are the police. There was also a party earlier this year as well.

‘I am incredibly disappointed that some have so little respect for the rules and what we expect from players in this club.

‘Today it just looks ridiculous. We have years of work ahead of us to turn around what has happened now. We are a big club which people should be proud of. Today we probably have almost zero trust.’

An unnamed player has been made a suspect by police after the allegation of sexual assault and the club’s general manager pledged to help the authorities with their investigation.

Vibeke Johannesen said: ‘If anyone has had a bad experience at the stadium, we have to apologise virulently.

‘What has happened is unacceptable. If a criminal act has taken place, we completely distance ourselves from it.’

He added that players will be drug tested after word spread about them using illegal substances during the sex party.

‘They were drunk, went to the stadium and had a party. We are also aware that there are rumors of illegal drug use, so we will test the players.

‘It is a deeply tragic and sad thing for the club and all involved. We take this very seriously and have already had a conversation,’ he added.

Fans have vented their fury at the players. They were booed on the pitch during the weekend’s home game against Sandefjord and a banner with the word ‘scum’ was put up on one of the stadium walls for a short time.

Brann ended up winning the game 3-2 but the club’s usually loud cohort of fans stayed almost silent throughout in protest.

Some of the players were said to be in tears at full time after the emotion of a shameful week in the club’s history came to the surface.
