Laporta reportedly closes in big sponsorship deal in a move to secure Neymar back to Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is closing in on a monstrous €500m sponsorship deal that’ll enable the club to meet the financial demands of Lionel Messi and also sign Neymar from PSG, according to Elchiringuito TV.
The details of the deal are still unclear at this point as they were not highlighted by the source.
Barcelona are in dire financial straight with the club indebted to the tune of €1 billion. Albeit, Laporta is bent on not allowing that to stop him in the quest to get Barca back as Champions League title contenders.
Neymar’s name has been heavily linked to Barcelona in recent weeks, with the Barca president stating he “likes” the winger.
Meanwhile, Messi is in the final weeks of his contract with Barca, as PSG continue to circle. It was reported that the Parisians have tabled a mega deal for the Barca skipper.
‘I’ll do what’s the best for everyone’: Neymar opens up on possible Barca return
In the press conference ahead of the Manchester City clash, Neymar was asked whether he will extend his contract at Paris Saint-Germain which is set to expire in 2022.
“Everything is almost settled. You know, we’re in discussions with Paris. I’ll do what’s the best for everyone. I’m very happy in Paris. This is the season that I feel the happiest at PSG. I’m happier this year than in the last two,” the Brazilian said, as quoted by Diario Sport.
“PSG are among the best teams in the world. Last year we reached the final, this year we hope to win the Champions League.”
It was previously reported that Barcelona considered making an offer for Neymar this summer. However, the winger extending his PSG contract would deem such a move practically impossible.
In 2019, meanwhile, the 29-year-old was reported to shape pushed for a Barca return but the transfer never went through as the two teams failed to reach an agreement.
Barcelona consider offering ‘cash plus player’ for Neymar as the Brazilian is eager to come back to Camp Nou and has informed Barcelona about it, as per CatRadio.
Barca consider making an offer worth €70-80m + a player, the source adds.
The Brazilian knows that the Barca door will be closed if he extends his deal with PSG.
Neymar’s possible comeback is expected to be warmly received by Barca’s locker room, it is said.
The 29-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists for PSG this season.
