David Moyes gives Jesse Lingard injury update after Newcastle defeat
West Ham United’s English midfielder Jesse Lingard reacts as he receives medications during the English Premier League football match between Newcastle United and West Ham United at St James’ Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, north east England on April 17, 2021.
West Ham’s top-four hopes took a major hit on Saturday as they suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United with star man Jesse Lingard also forced off the pitch in a concern for supporters.
The Hammers had Craig Dawson sent off for two first-half bookings and found themselves 2-0 down after an own goal from Issa Diop and a Joelinton tap-in.
But they came roaring back with a header from Diop and a penalty from Manchester United loanee Lingard.

It seemed as if Moyes’s team were in the ascendency but Arsenal loanee Joe Willock bagged a late winner for Newcastle to secure three points – a result that lifts them nine points clear of third-bottom Fulham.
West Ham remain fourth for the time being but have played a game less than both Chelsea and Liverpool, both of whom would rise above them if they won their game in hand.
There were concerns for goalscorer Lingard when he was brought off with three minutes of normal time remaining but Moyes provided some good news, suggesting it was only cramp.
West Ham United’s Scottish manager David Moyes reacts prior to the English Premier League football match between Newcastle United and West Ham United at St James’ Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, north east England on April 17, 2021.
‘I think it was just cramp, I don’t think it was anything serious,’ said Moyes.

Lingard has scored seven goals in as many games for the Hammers, in what has proven a fruitful loan for both parties.
It could ultimately secure him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad – something that looked unlikely as he remained on the fringes at Old Trafford earlier this season.
West Ham return to action next Saturday in a crunch fixture against top-four rivals Chelsea.
