AC Milan and French Striker test positive for coronavirus after test on Thursday

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has tested positive for coronavirus and is recovering in isolation, the Italian club have revealed.

The 34-year-old French forward received his positive diagnosis on Thursday, a full four days since he last featured for the Rossoneri in their last Serie A match with Cagliari.

Milan say Giroud is feeling well after contracting the virus and has not been in contact with anyone of his team-mates since their last game.

Giroud joined the Italian giants in the summer transfer window just gone in a £1million move from Chelsea.

The 34-year-old scored his first two competitive goals for the Rossoneri last weekend against Cagliari, a victory that continued the club’s 100 per cent start to the Serie A season.

The striker would normally be linking up with the French national team at this time of the year but Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps did not select him in the squad for the September World Cup qualifiers.

Giroud will now be a doubt for Milan’s next match – a clash at home to fellow Italian giants Lazio on September 12, who have also begun with two wins from two games under new head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Milan then begin their Champions League group stage campaign with a trip to Anfield to take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on September 15
