Ilaix Moriba has been named in Spain’s preliminary squad for the Tokyo Olympic Games, as per Mundo Deportivo.

Riqui Puig, Oscar Mingueza, Pedri, Alex Collado, and even the injured ,have also been included in the list.

Interestingly, Gerard Pique’s name is also on the list as the 34-year-old intends to become an Olympic gold medalist before he retires.

The Tokyo Olympics was initially scheduled to hold between July and August 2020. The event was later rescheduled for July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lionel Messi is the only player in Barca’s current squad with an Olympic medal. The Barca Captain helped Argentina win gold in football at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Pedri completes more recoveries than any other Spain debutant in single game since 2014
By featuring against Georgia in the World Cup qualifiers on Sunday, Pedri Gonzalez managed to get close to Spain’s long-standing record.

The 18-year-old completed more recoveries (10) than any other Spain debutant since September 2014.

Back then, the record (14) was set by Dani Carvajal as Spain faced France in a friendly.

As a reminder, Pedri contributed to Spain’s 2-1 win against Georgia.

Pedri opens up on his prefered position and debut Spain call-up
“The position where I like to play the most is in the centre. Being behind the striker, being able to give that final pass that I love so much, that’s the position I’d choose. But I’m here for whatever the coach says and to play in whatever position he says,” Pedri has told Club del Deportista.

This term so far, the 18-year-old has played 41 matches, recording three goals and six assists. As per Transfermarkt, Pedri has played 24 games as an attacking midfielder, nine as a central midfielder and six as a left winger.

His confident displays for Barcelona has won Pedri his first senior call-up for Spain. Here’s how the youngster has reacted to it: “Well, for me it’s a prize, which I face with a lot of desire and enthusiasm.”
